Free admission to the Military Museum and other select Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission sites on this date to commemorate the granting of the Charter from Charles II to William Penn which founded Penns Woods in 1681.

- EXHIBIT: "Memories of Service - PA National Mementos from the Great War"
April thru June
More than 25,000 Commonwealth citizens served with the 28th Infantry Division in World War One. This temporary exhibit will showcase the souvenir items that soldiers bought, found, traded or made to commemorate their experiences. Museum admission required to view exhibit.

- LECTURE: Military History Speaker Series: "Airpower's Effectiveness in Operation Iraqui Freedon/Operation Enduring Freedom"

Due to conventional capabilities, coupled with technological advances, airpoere is more essential today than ever before in the current counterinsurgency fight in Afghanistan. LTCOL Jeffery M. Dr. Ferro has been inteviewed numerous times on local radio and television on topics regarding Abraham Lincoln and other Presidents. He currently teaches two courses through Elerhostel including "The Six Most Interesting Presidents of the Twentieth Century."

The Spanish-American War of 1898 was a defining moment in history that launched the United States onto the international stage and concretized Spains decline as an empire. Through various socio-historical and critical perspectives, Dr. Fernández-Medinas presentation will examine the war of 98 to provide a more variegated rendering of how the United States-Cuba-Spain power play affected concepts of nation and national identity on both sides of the Atlantic. - A CELEBRATION OF SERVICE: HONORING PENNSYLVANIA VETERANS

U.S. Army reunion and memorial service sponsored by the Pennsylvania National Guard commemorating the Pennsylvanian Citizen Soldier. Activities include a military band concert, distinguished speaker, helicopter/vehicle displays and a twenty-one-gun, 105mm howitzer battery salute. Call ahead for itinerary.

- WORLD WAR II REVISITED
May 29 & 30
American and German WWII re-enactors will bivouac on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum portraying field life in the European Theater of Operations, 1944-45. A small squad tactical demonstration against German opposition is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. each day. Bivouac and tactical open to the public 10:00 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. Call ahead for itinerary.

Visit this Living History bivouac (encampment) on the grounds of the Pennsylvania Military Museum with re-enactors portraying the combat soldier of the Vietnam era in-country in Southeast Asia. Daily programs include accompanying squads on Short Range Recon Patrols and a tactical patrol ambush demonstration at 1:00pm and 3:00pm. LECTURE - Central Pennsylvania Civil War Roundtable Presents:
October 5
Dr. Janice S. McElhoe will speak on "Shadows of War - Prelude to the First Memorial Day." This presentation descrives events in Boalsburg before and during deployment of Company G of the 148th Pennsylvanians to the Civil War. It follows the young soldiers and their families through the excitement of going to war and the increasingly difficult years of the Civil War that culminated in the observance of the first Memorial Day.

John Quarstein will speak on "Fort Monroe: The Key to the South." Mr. Quarstein is an author of nine books and received the President's Award for Historic Preservation. He is currently the director of the Virginia War Museum in Newport News, VA.
